The Uprising Fiji International Sevens Tournament 2012
The Uprising Fiji International sevens tournament will be staged on the 20th and 21st of January, 2012 at the TFL National Stadium in Suva. World class competition from top 16 local and international teams will be converging participating to win the coveted $25,000 prize money. 2012 Men’s Draw
Teams that will be taking part in the 2012 tournament include the Aussie Thunderbolts, the New Zealand champions Auckland Invitational side coached by former flying Fijians mentor Wayne Pivac, the Samoa Invitational side and an All-Star squad made up of National Test players from Spain, New Zealand and Fiji. This year’s event promises to elevate the action to even higher levels and is shaping up to promote the vast majority of Fiji’s elite talent from all over the country.
2012 Women’s Draw
Also for the first time ever, the annual tournament will host a women’s rugby competition. The Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre has joined hands with the organizers of the tournament to help advocate non- violence against women during the event. “This is a small step forward to promoting women’s rugby and a big leap towards advocating non- violence against women. Staff from the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre will also be present at the stadium to help get the message across to the audience of the tournament,” said spokesperson Tahitia Kamea.
Some of the women’s team to look out for are the International team Anhui, a Chinese provincial team coached by former national 7s rep, Tomasi Cama, the Fijiana Development team and the Marist Sea Hawks.
